The Mauna Kea Hotel has re-opened after a major refurbishment. While, the original ambiance remains as one of the elite resorts on the island, many renovations greatly improved the rooms and commons areas. The Mauna Kea has been a favorite of North American and International travelers since it opened in 1964. The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is an open-air resort built in classic Island style. This Big Island resort fronts a great stretch of natural white-sand beach. The class of this resort is evident with 1,600 pieces of rare museum artwork tastefully displayed throughout the hotel.
